Man arrested after shooting near White Cloud

BIG PRAIRIE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man faces an attempted murder charge after firing shots into a vehicle southeast of White Cloud Thursday evening.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the area of Pine Avenue and 40th Street in Big Prairie Township, according to Michigan State Police. Police say the victim was sitting in his vehicle when another driver fired the shots. The victim was not hurt.

The motive behind the shooting is not yet known.

The suspect, a 24-year-old White Cloud man whose name has not yet been released, was arrested on a charge of assault with intent to commit murder, which is punishable by up to life in prison. The Newaygo County prosecutor may add further charges.

The suspect has not yet been formally arraigned.
