Give back to veterans with Operation Honor Guard

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Did you know that honor guards for a military funeral are not funded by the military? They are veterans, volunteers, who unselfishly give their time.

Requests for a military funeral may be denied simply because the volunteers do not have the funding or personnel available to perform these honors. A Veterans Service Organization can pay thousands out of pocket for their uniforms, boots, gloves, even gas to attend the funeral. The average age of a volunteer honor guard member is 75 years old. Veterans Service Organizations need funding to help recruit and maintain younger honor guard volunteers. Now you can help give back to these selfless volunteers during the Day of Giving. Check out the video to find out details.
