GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police in armored gear searched an apartment building Monday in connection to a weekend incident in which nine people were shot.
Late Monday afternoon, the Grand Rapids Police Department officers showed up at the scene in the 900 block of 33rd Street, east of Marshall Avenue. Officers on scene said a search warrant had been secured for the residence. GRPD blocked off the street as it was searched.
Police did not find a suspect and declined to say what else, if anything, they were looking for.
At around 4 a.m. Sunday, nine people were shot at a large party inside of a strip mall on 28th Street east of Kalamazoo Avenue SE. Juwan Boykin, 21, was killed. The other eight victims were expected to recover.
Since the shooting, officers have been trying to locate the person or people responsible. Police say uncooperative witnesses have hampered their efforts to solve the crime.
