ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman sustained life-threatening injuries after a car crash involving a deer in rural Kent County.

The crash happened around 9 a.m. Tuesday on Algoma Avenue NE south of 15 Mile Road in Algoma Township, southwest of Cedar Springs, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say a deer ran into the path of a northbound vehicle and was struck. The collision threw the deer into the windshield of a southbound vehicle.

The driver of the southbound vehicle, a Kent City woman, was rushed to a Grand Rapids hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The southbound driver was the only person hurt. Authorities said everyone involved was wearing their seat belt and that neither alcohol nor excessive speed were factors in the crash.
