Fire damages Grand Rapids home; smoke seen for miles

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids firefighters are trying to determine the cause of a fire that significantly damaged a southeast side home, causing a plume of smoke that could be seen miles away.

The fire started around 2 p.m. Friday at a home in the area of Eastern Avenue and Adams Street SE. Police blocked off the street as crews battled the flames, which damaged the rear of the home.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire and no one was hurt.
