GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A burning garbage truck caused a large traffic backup on I-196 heading into Grand Rapids Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. on eastbound I-196 near Market Avenue.

The right lane was blocked as emergency crews worked to put out the fire. At one point, traffic was backed up to 44th Street.

Kent County Dispatch says the driver was able to get out the truck and was not injured.

It’s unclear what started the fire.

All lanes reopened around 10:15 a.m.
