Schwan’s truck driver hits tree, hospitalized

FLOWERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Schwan’s truck driver was airlifted to the hospital Monday evening after a crashing into a tree that fell into the road east of Marcellus.

The crash happened just before 8:40 p.m. on M-216/Marcellus Road about a quarter of a mile east of Chamberlain Road in Flowerfield Township, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the truck was headed east on M-216 when a tree fell into the road. The driver was not able to stop and hit the tree head-on.

The driver, 28-year-old Timothy Sherer of Constantine, had to be extricated from the truck and was then airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor and Sherer was wearing his seat belt, the sheriff’s office said.
