POLKTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on I-96 near Coopersville Wednesday morning.
The crash happened around 8 a.m. near 88th Avenue, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies say a 2001 Ford Explorer was heading westbound when the vehicle went off the highway, struck a tree and caught on fire.
The driver, 22-year-old Andrew Passinault, was the only person inside the vehicle at the time.
It’s unclear what led up to the crash.
Passinault was a graduate of Forest Hills Northern High School, according to his obituary. His father, Steve Passinault, is the principal at Forest Hills Central High School.
