NELSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Rockford woman was seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash Friday morning.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of 18 Mile Road and Myers Lake Avenue in Nelson Township, east of Cedar Springs.

Kent County sheriff’s deputies say a 2008 Dodge Caravan, driven by 41-year-old Kellie Austin of Rockford, was heading southbound on Myers Lake Avenue when she pulled out in front of an eastbound 2012 Chevy Suburban that had the right of way. The Suburban struck the passenger side of the Caravan, sending both vehicles into the southeast corner of the intersection.

Austin was taken to the hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

The driver of the Suburban, a 55-year-old passenger and 2-year-old passenger were all taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Family told 24 Hour News 8 Friday evening that the 55-year-old is currently in the hospital recovering from a broken back.

The crash remains under investigation.
