GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids man who police say tried to buy children with the intention of sexually assaulting them has pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

David Riggs was scheduled for a status conference Monday and instead pleaded guilty to child sexually abusive activity and using a computer to commit a crime in Kent County Circuit Court.

Michigan State Police say the Riggs, 29, went online to try to buy children and unknowingly arranged a meeting with an undercover officer. At that meeting, according to MSP, Riggs said he planned to sexually assault the children. MSP said he had items “related to the planned sexual assault” when they arrested him in Grand Rapids in early September.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 22.
