GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) – Every now and then an artist comes along who really defines their craft, and causes a lot of buzz. Iris van Herpen is one of those artists. At age 32, she has taken the world of couture by storm, presenting collections where normal rules don’t apply. Her looks have been worn by everyone, from Beyonce to Lady GaGa.
For the first time, you can see some pieces from her most famous collections up close at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Producer Joy visited this amazing display. Check out the video to see these looks up close and personal.
If you love fashion, you could easily spend hours in exploring this collection. It’s really a must-see stop for anyone interested in fashion, but each piece also combines art, technology, design and engineering.
The GRAM is hosting several free drop-in-tours coming up in November and December, they’re all an hour long. There will also be a lecture series with professor Suzanne Eberle on December 10th. She will explore how Iris van Herpen has been influenced by the long, exciting history of fashion – from Japanese Samurai armor to 20th century haute couture. The exhibition is up through January 15th, so don’t miss it!
