MARSHALL, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say they discovered drugs and components for a meth lab inside a van parked outside a popular children’s playground in Calhoun County.

Marshall police were running a routine check at Ketchum Park when an officer noticed a suspicious van parked at Kids Kingdom just after 12 a.m. Sunday.

When the officer approached the vehicle, a man jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off.

Another officer stopped the vehicle and the 33-year-old driver was arrested on two outstanding warrants and for driving without a license.

The suspect was also charged with possessing methamphetamine with intent to deliver after authorities say they discovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and tools to make meth while searching his van. Authorities said they also found additional chemicals and components used to make meth at the park near where the van was parked.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department is still searching for a second suspect.
