Accidental shooting critically injures Battle Creek man

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A Battle Creek man suffered a gunshot wound to the head in a shooting police have deemed accidental.

Police were called to the first block of West Fountain Street in Battle Creek just before 4 a.m. Thursday. There, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers believe the 24-year-old shooting victim was handling a handgun when the weapon went off. Police say the man was with friends when the shooting happened, and he was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.

The shooting victim was listed in critical condition hours later.

Detectives found and confiscated the weapon.
