Portage police: Driver crashes U-Haul truck, runs away

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Police in Portage are looking for the driver who ran away after crashing a U-Haul truck into a tree on Saturday evening.

The crash happened around 6:10 p.m. in the 2200 block of Woody Noll Drive, west of Andrews Street near Austin Lake, according to the Portage Department of Public Safety.

Witnesses told authorities that the driver, who was the only person in the U-Haul, took off on foot headed north after the crash. Police set up a perimeter and called in a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety K-9 unit to help look for the driver without success.
