WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver who was hit in the head with a rock and then crashed in Walker earlier this month has died.

Joseph Gibbons, 48, died on Saturday as a result of his injuries from the Oct. 17 crash, according to his obituary.

Police say an 11-pound rock fell off of a dump trailer being hauled by a semi-truck on Turner Avenue south of West River Drive, and crashed through Gibbons’ windshield, hitting him in the head. Gibbons was knocked unconscious and crashed into a power pole, snapping it in half, and then some bushes.

Gibbons was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. He died 12 days later.

His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs.

It’s unclear what, if any, charges the driver of the truck will face.
