Man seriously hurt after hit by vehicle on Chicago Drive

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was seriously injured after he was hit by a vehicle while walking down Chicago Drive in Ottawa County.

Deputies say Nicholas Schalk, 21, of Hudsonville was walking westbound on Chicago Drive near Port Sheldon around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by a vehicle also traveling westbound.

The driver told deputies he didn’t see the pedestrian until just before the crash and couldn’t avoid hitting him because there was another vehicle in the lane next to him.

Deputies say Schalk was wearing dark clothing.

Schalk was taken to a Grand Rapids hospital in serious, but stable condition.
