WMU: Armed robbery in dorm parking lot

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Western Michigan University campus police are investigating after a student was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of a residence hall Monday evening.

According to a release from the university, the student said he had planned to meet someone at 8:50 p.m. in the parking lot of Western Heights on the northeast side of campus to talk about the sale of a cellphone. The student said he got into a car with the robber, at which point the robber pulled a handgun and demanded money. The student gave the robber his money and was not hurt.

There was not immediately a specific description of the robber, but his vehicle was described as a silver Pontiac.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call campus public safety at 269.387.5555.

WMU says it sent out an alert to students about the robbery.
