FILLMORE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department is trying to determine what led up to the crane accident that killed a man near Holland.

The call came in around 8:55 a.m. Tuesday from HES Equipment/A & B Farms on Blue Star Highway near 142nd Avenue in Fillmore Township. Authorities identified the victim as 55-year-old Robert Jay Geurink, who is the owner and operator of A&B Farms.

Police said Geurink was the sole operator of the crane when it fell.  Other workers heard the crash but no one directly witnessed the incident, officers said.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administrators will lead the investigation because it does not look criminal, deputies said.
