ATHENS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A teen was critically injured Monday after a two-vehicle crash in Calhoun County.
It happened around 11 a.m. at the intersection of 6 Mile Road and N Drive in Athens Township, south of Battle Creek.
Three teens were traveling in a southbound vehicle on 6 Mile Road when a northbound vehicle tried to make a left turn onto N Drive, hitting the teens. The southbound vehicle went off the road and into nearby trees. At least one teen was ejected from the vehicle, according to a news release from Michigan State Police.
The front seat passenger, 17-year-old Bailey Mears of Union City, was flown to the hospital by Samaritan Air Care with critical injuries. The other two teens, 18-year-old Jacob Todd of Union City and 18-year-old Cody Rice of Athens, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, the releases said.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, 47-year-old David Byrd of Union City, was treated and released at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors.
