WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — In the initial Craigslist exchange between Brady Oestrike and the couple he murdered in 2014, Charles Oppenneer and Brooke Slocum said they needed money, which is why they were meeting with him for sex.

Records of the online conversation were among hundreds of documents released to Target 8 on Wednesday under the Freedom of Information Act. In them, Slocum’s desperate plea for cash to pay for gas shows she and her boyfriend, Oppenneer, were in a tight spot financially.

On July 2, 2014, the 18-year-old Slocum posted on Craigslist, “I need 50$ by 330pm today. I can pay you back later tonight but I need gas and some mess quick!”

“I’m 8 months pregnant and my lungs are all squished as is… If you could help me out Me and my daughter will greatly appreciate it!” the post continues.

Ten days later, Brady Oestrike replied under the name “Mike’s Hard.” It seems the first part of the conversation was not included in the documents provided to Target 8.

“I can host what are you thinking?” Oestrike wrote.

Ten minutes later, Slocum replied:  “Uhmmm well we are looking for donations if possible. kinda in a tight spot and we have a baby on the way. As far as the funn goes though there wont be any male on male action…”

Oestrike later replied he can “swing” $120 and offers to give the couple a ride.

Slocum replied, “no we can travel, just can’t host is all. when/where would you like to meet up?”

“I’d like to _____ out side in a park around/n 1130 that OK?” Oestrike told her.

The records show Slocum was hesitant about meeting at the park.

“hmm… i dunno… i don’t wanna get introuble for indecent exposure or anything…I cant go to jail being 8 months pregnant..” she wrote.

But Oestrike assures her, “Its cop free.”

They later agreed to meet at midnight.

It’s unclear from the documents whether the meeting place was Gezon Park in Wyoming, where police later found Oppenneer’s decapitated body.

Authorities say Oestrike held Slocum captive for days in his home before strangling her. He then led police on a brief chase before crashing and taking his own life. Police found Slocum’s body in the trunk of his car.

The Craigslist transcripts provide a glimpse into what led up to the homicides, but Slocum’s family says it’s not the whole story. They say she was sex trafficked and set up a foundation called Brooke’s Angels to help other troubled teens.
