Death of girl found in burned Holt apartment deemed homicide

DELHI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD/WLNS) — Ingham County investigators believe a 6-year-old killed in a fire was the victim of a homicide.

Detectives tell our Lansing sister station WLNS that they suspect the fire that started at the Old Orchard Apartments in Holt was intentionally set.

The flames started around 7:30 p.m. inside a unit at the complex, located at 4330 Keller Road.

Delhi Township firefighters recovered the girl’s body after putting out the fire.

Authorities tell WLNS a person of interest is in custody. They are withholding the child’s name, but say her family and school district have been notified.

Other residents of the apartment building won’t be allowed back into their homes until later Wednesday morning.
