ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A bicyclist was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a car just south of Zeeland.
The crash happened just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Business Loop I-196 and 88th Avenue in Zeeland Township.
A 17-year-old driver from Jenison who was headed east on I-196 told the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office that he didn’t see the northbound bicyclist in the crosswalk. John Pastunink, 56, of Zeeland was struck and thrown from his bicycle.
He was rushed to a Grand Rapids hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Pastunink was wearing a helmet, the sheriff’s office said.
