CASSOPOLIS, Mich. (WOOD) — The driver police believe intentionally hit two women on horseback in Cass County didn’t have a legal license.

Adam Robert Biek is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, to counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, and driving on a suspended license.

Authorities say the riders were in the 29000 block of Allen Road in Dowagiac Tuesday when Biek hit them and drove away.

At least one woman and a horse suffered minor injuries, police say.

When Michigan State Police got to Biek’s home, they say he refused to come to the door, leading to the standoff that eventually ended Wednesday morning.

The 32-year-old suspect is expected back in court Nov. 16.
