WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids Drive fans got their first look at the team Thursday as they held open practice at the DeltaPlex in Walker.
The Drive, an NBA D-League team affiliated with the Detroit Pistons, open their third season one week from Friday against the Canton Charge.
Rex Walters has taken over as the new head coach and the team has added some names that should be familiar to Michigan basketball fans. Jordan Crawford, former Michigan State Spartan Shannon Brown and former Detroit Mercy star Ray McCallum are expected to be key contributors.
“Michigan, man, I love it, I love it I love it,” Brown said of being back in the state. “I’m just glad to be here.”
“I just want to develop my game and start having fun again with the game of basketball,” he continued. “I feel like this is the perfect situation for me as far as furthering my career and so far it’s been good.”
“Just being in Detroit, being there with camp, and I felt like this would be a good opportunity for myself to come down here with the familiarity with Coach Rex and running the same system that we were running in Detroit,” McCallum said. “So I’m excited to be here.”
