WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — Police believe a man may have suffered a medical condition when his vehicle crashed in a roundabout in Walker and caught fire.
Officers with the Walker Police Department were called to the single vehicle crash in the roundabout at Wilson Avenue and Remembrance Road NW around 1 a.m. Friday.
When they arrived, the overturned vehicle was on fire and the male driver was still trapped inside.
Officers were able to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher.
The Walker Fire Department responded to extricate the driver who was then taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital with life threatening injuries.
After further investigation, police believe the vehicle was traveling northbound on Wilson approaching the roundabout when it suddenly drove across the west side of the roundabout over several curbs. The vehicle hit and and damaged several street signs and a light pole before it overturned in the southbound lanes of Wilson Avenue.
Police say the 47-year-old Kentwood man may have suffered a medical condition before the crash. His name has not been released.
