PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A semi-truck driver was hospitalized Wednesday after crashing on a highway interchange ramp in Portage.
The crash happened around 2:45 p.m. on the ramp from eastbound I-94 to northbound US-131, according to the Portage Department of Public Safety.
Authorities say that the semi tipped over, trapping the driver, a 44-year-old Niles man, inside. He was freed by emergency responders and taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The semi had been hauling some 43,000 pounds of scrap paper, which authorities say had to be unloaded before the truck could be moved off the ramp. As a result, the ramp remained closed for several hours during the clean-up process.
The crash remains under investigation.
