BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was taken to the hospital after police say he crashed his car into the Kalamazoo River.
It happened at 12:43 a.m. Sunday in the area of Dickman Road and Capital Avenue SW in Battle Creek.
A witness told police that a vehicle left the road and plunged into the river. Police later found out that the vehicle was occupied.
Police say when they arrived on-scene, the man was out of the vehicle and floating down the river. He yelled to police that he could not swim and thought his ankle was broken.
Officers surrounded the area where the man was, and one officer was able to get into the water and pull the man onto the riverbank.
The man was taken to the hospital, but police did not release the extent of his injuries.
Police say the crash is under investigation.
