Deputies: $15K of copper wire stolen from 2 businesses

ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities are investigating after $15,000 worth of copper wire was stolen from two Allegan County businesses.

The thefts occurred a couple of weeks apart — end of October and mid-November — from two nearby businesses.

Both thefts happened at night and the suspect or suspects drove their off-road vehicle to the scene. In both cases, large heavy gauge electrical wire around two-inches thick with half-inch thick copper cores were stolen.

Authorities believe the suspect or suspects have an understanding of electrical power in order to safely steal the wires, and the stolen wire is being sold for scrap.
