GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A big name in West Michigan is reportedly on President-elect Donald Trump’s list of potentials for Secretary of Education.

West Michigan political activist and Republican supporter Betsy DeVos will meet with Trump Saturday in New Jersey. The purpose of the meeting is not clear but 24 Hour News 8 political reporter Rick Albin says it isn’t surprising, given Trump is the first Republican presidential candidate to win in Michigan since 1988.

DeVos is one of the biggest supporters of the Republican Party in the nation. The former head of the Michigan GOP is a prolific fundraiser and contributor.

However, DeVos was not active in Trump’s campaign and other names have also been mentioned as possibilities for Secretary of State.

DeVos may also be considered to replace Reince Priebus on the Republican National Committee or at the very least weigh in on the direction the party should go following Trump’s election.

Current Michigan Republican Party chair Ronna Romney McDaniels name has also been thrown out there as a potential successor to Priebus.
