GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — With a trip to Ford Field on the line, eight local high school football teams were in action on Saturday in the MHSAA state semifinals.
In Division 2, Lowell took on Walled Lake Western in Brighton. The Red Arrows trailed by 23 at one point and saw their comeback fall just short, 37-34. In Division 3, Muskegon and Edwardsburg met up in East Kentwood. The Big Reds dropped the Eddies, 19-8, and will face Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in the D3 State Final next Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Over in Division 4, Grand Rapids Catholic Central and Unity Christian squared off in Greenville. It was all Cougars, as they waltzed by the Crusaders, 31-3, to set-up a date with Detroit Country Day in the D4 State Final on Friday at 7:30 p.m. In Division 5, West Catholic earned a 4th straight berth in the championship game as they topped Algonac, 17-0 in Battle Creek. The Falcons will play Menominee in the D5 State Final next Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Next up is Division 7, where Cassopolis saw its season come to an end at the hands of Detroit Loyola, 54-22. Finally, in Division 8, Muskegon Catholic Central continued its quest for a 4th straight title. The Crusaders shutout St. Ignace, 35-0, and will face Ottawa Lake Whiteford in the D8 State Final on Friday at 10 a.m.
