SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a report of people stealing alcohol from the South Haven Meijer led to a drug bust.
On Friday, officers were called to the Meijer on a report of two men trying to steal liquor, according to the South Haven Police Department. They confronted the men in the parking lot and arrested them. A third suspect was found in a parked car.
Police soon found crack cocaine, marijuana and a large amount of currency believed to be from drug sales.
Police then got a warrant to search a vehicle and hotel room linked to the suspects, where they say they found more pot and a stolen handgun.
The suspects’ names were not released Sunday, but police say all are from the South Haven area. They were taken to the Van Buren County Jail on charges of organized retail fraud, possession with intent to deliver marijuana and cocaine, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm. All three have what police described as “extensive” criminal histories including drug and weapons charges.
Police said they are continuing to investigate and have recovered additional property — though they did not immediately specify what that property was. It says it will be following up with other local, state and federal agencies, but again did not say which agencies or clarify what that follow-up would involve.
