Authorities ID body found in Grand River

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say they have tentatively identified the man whose body was pulled from the Grand River near Jenison last week.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that tattoos and other details on the body led them to believe it is that of Dion Robert Heys, 28, of Grand Rapids.

Experts are expected to confirm the identity using dental records that have to be obtained from out of state.

Heys’ body was pulled from the river in Georgetown Township on Thursday after a someone walking a dog noticed it. Authorities think Heys died a week or two ago.

The exact circumstances of the death are unknown, but the medical examiners say he drowned.

Foul play is not suspected.
