Help CARE Ballet give back to the Red Cross

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) – Every year, the West Michigan chapter of the American Red Cross responds to over 350 fires in it’s 12 county area. Teams of volunteers respond 24/7 to meet the emergency needs of families who have often lost everything. In addition to providing funds for housing, clothing and food, the red cross volunteers give every family member an individualized comfort kit with basic toiletries. This holiday season, CARE Ballet is partnering with the Red Cross to ensure that every child’s comfort kit will come with a small stuffed animal.

CARE Ballet is preparing to kick off the holiday season over the Thanksgiving weekend with their one-hour classical ballet, ‘Twas’, based on Clement Moore’s famous poem, The Night Before Christmas.

“Our dancers wanted to find a way to express the spirit of the holiday season beyond their gifts of dance,” said Judy Genson-Wadsworth, CARE’s artistic director.

A focus on community outreach is a long-standing tradition at CARE Ballet, which since its founding 24 years ago has sponsored over 50,000 students from underserved area schools attending their ballet performances.

Performances of ‘Twas’ will begin Friday, November 25 at 7 p.m. at the East Grand Rapids High School Performing Arts Center. Repeat performances are offered on Saturday, November 26 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and Sunday, November 27 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and are available on-line at or at the door. Parking is free.
