GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The deadly shooting of a man on Sunday in northwest Grand Rapids was accidental, according to a 24 Hour News 8 source.

The 35-year-old man, who police identified Monday as Gregory Lee Rogers,apparently shot himself while shoving a pistol into the waistband of his pants, the source confirmed.

The shooting happened Sunday afternoon in the 300 block of Straight Street NW.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police said at 3 p.m. Sunday that the shooting was a homicide, but less than an hour later said it was not a homicide, calling it a death investigation and possible suicide instead.

Officers said Monday afternoon that Rogers’ shooting death remains under investigation.
