KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man is in custody after police say he robbed a man and woman at gunpoint while they were in their vehicle.

The robbery happened just before 7 p.m. Monday in the area of Portage Street and E Stockbridge Avenue, according to a release from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

Officers say the victims, a 23-year-old man and 19-year-old woman, were inside their vehicle that was parked at an area business waiting to sell some property to an unknown man. The pair told officers they had been in contact with him on Facebook.

While they were waiting, a man got inside their vehicle and robbed them at gunpoint. He then took off on foot.

Officers were able to identify the suspect using security footage from area businesses, as well as information the victims provided.

The suspect, a 17-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested a short time later on a charge of armed robbery. He was lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
