WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — With temperatures reaching nearly 60 degrees with just days to go until December, some golf courses in West Michigan are reaping the benefits of a warm November day.
By 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Maple Hill Golf Course in Wyoming had already received nearly two dozen phone calls from people asking if they could play golf.
“People in this area are such golf enthusiasts, they want to play whenever they can. If it’s not crazy windy — like today it’s just a little bit of a breeze, it’s just an absolutely perfect day — we’ll let them go. Whenever they want to go as long as they aren’t going to do any damage to the greens that’s our only real concern,” said Bob Kitchen, the sales manager at Maple Hill Golf Course.
Normally this time of year employees are working mostly in Maple Hill’s Pro Shop selling bags and balls and clubs, so a day like Tuesday is a bonus.
“Kind of found money. It’s a nice little send off for the season cause this long range looks not so promising. It’s great to have people out there one last time to enjoy the sun. Maybe pick their ball out of the mud, but at least they are out here enjoying themselves,” said Kitchen.
The company had a great weekend with Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, but seeing golfers on the course on Tuesday was a big win as well.
“The store, with the Black Friday this past weekend and then Cyber Monday was yesterday the store has been very, very busy. Steady traffic for a holiday weekend,” Kitchen said.
Although it looks like Tuesday will be the nicest day of the week, chances are Maple Hill may have an opening for you if you want to golf, just make sure to call first and ask.
