2 in custody for string of Kzoo vehicle break-ins

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Two teens suspected of breaking into at least 15 vehicles in the Kalamazoo area were taken into custody Thursday morning.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety was alerted around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday that a vehicle had been broken into in the 3400 block of Old Colony.

A sergeant was patrolling that area around 2 a.m. Thursday when he saw the dome lights in vehicle going on and off. After further investigation, police discovered around 15 vehicles had been broken into.

A K-9 unit was able to track down two suspects in the 1000 block of Parker. The stolen property was located and police say both suspects confessed to breaking into the vehicles.

Both male suspects, ages 16 and 18, live in Kalamazoo and are currently on probation for larceny related offenses, according to police.

The 16-year-old suspect is being held at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home, while the 18-year-old is lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
