GRPD: 1 person shot in SE Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids police are investigating a shooting near Burton Street SE on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police are investigating after a person was shot on the city’s southeast side Friday afternoon.

It happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. near Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology in the 600 block of Burton Street SE.

Police on scene told 24 Hour News 8 that 18-year-old man was shot in the hip near the intersection of Burton Street and Eastern Avenue then ran to the nearby school. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

There are no suspects in custody.
