Suspected drunk driver rolls semi in Portage

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a suspected drunk driver was behind the wheel of semi-truck when it overturned on a highway ramp in Portage.

The semi-truck was heading northbound on US-131 when the driver attempted to turn onto the westbound I-94 ramp and the truck went off the road and overturned around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers with the Portage Department of Public Safety say the driver, a 53-year-old man from Lapeer, was under the influence of alcohol. He was not injured in the rollover crash.

The man was arrested for operating while intoxicated and is being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail pending charges.

The ramp was shut down for nearly four hours while the semi was being removed.

No other vehicles were involved.
