Driver killed in Zeeland Township crash ID’ed

Crews work at the scene of a fatal crash on Chicago Drive in Hudsonville (May 12, 2017)

ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says a Zeeland Township man killed in a rollover crash on Chicago Drive wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The crash happened around 2:22 a.m. Friday on Chicago Drive at 48th Avenue in Zeeland Township, about a mile outside Hudsonville’s city limits.

Authorities say 24-year-old Dylan Compagner was westbound on Chicago Drive when he veered off the road and hit a guardrail.

Compagner was thrown from the vehicle when it rolled onto its side, deputies said. He died at the scene.

Authorities tell 24 Hour News 8 that a 30 to 40 foot section of guardrail was pulled into the road during the crash. The Ottawa County Road Commission has since removed it.

Westbound Chicago Drive was closed at 48th Avenue for approximately two hours, but has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
