Driver dies in crash while running from Battle Creek police

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver died Sunday morning while running from Battle Creek police.

A Battle Creek police officer spotted a vehicle speeding and swerving along Capital Avenue SW near Christy Ave. around 3:30 a.m. The Battle Creek Police Department says the officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver kept going, running several stop signs and red lights.

The driver lost control when they failed to negotiate the curve on Golden Avenue near South Raymond Road in Emmett Township and crashed.

Rescue crews were called in to try and revive the driver, but that person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Battle Creek police say they will release the name of the driver once family is properly notified.
