HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was taken in to police custody after an hourslong standoff in Holland Township early Sunday.
Holland police surrounded a home on the 300 block of Central Avenue around 2 a.m. for an original call of a weapons complaint.
Officers spoke with both the victim and a witness who live in the same residence as the armed suspect. Police were informed that the suspect pointed a shotgun at the victim and the suspect was still inside the home. When police surrounded the home where they reported seeing the suspect with the weapon.
Police attempted to get the armed man to come outside and talk with them, however the suspect did not cooperate with them.
The Holland Police Special Enforcement Team was called out to assist along with K-9 units.
Several hours later, the suspect surrendered peacefully to police. Holland police say the 40-year-old man was highly intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
Police say they searched the home and found long guns, which were confiscated as evidence.
The man is charged of felonious domestic assault and is expected to be arraigned Monday.
