Great Lakes Ice Cover Growing

Great Lakes ice cover is now at 32.1%.  That’s well above last winter’s peak of 19.4% and almost up to the peak of 33.8% in the winter of 2015-16.   Here’s historic Great Lakes ice cover maximum.  We had many years with high ice extent from 1976-86 (note the high water on the Great Lakes in 1986-87.  There were five low extent years in a row following the strong El Nino of 1998. Here’s a rare sunny day at Alpena with the sunlight glistening off the ice of Thunder Bay. Also:  Polar bears spread out over Hudson Bay.
