Thursday Afternoon’s Storms

The storms we had Thursday afternoon started forming shortly afternoon where the prevailing (light) wind from the northeast met the westerly lake breeze coming in off Lake Michigan.  When air comes together, it has no place to go but up, and that’s where the rising, warm and moist air generated thunderstorms.  We had a couple reports of small hail (1/4 to 1/2″ in diameter) in Van Buren County near Grand Junction.  A power line came down across M-40 and the rode was closed for a brief time.
