Heavy lake-effect snow has accumulated over a foot deep on the other side of Lake Michigan and also in a couple bands coming off Lake Huron. The wind has been NNE, so the wind off the lake has been bringing the lake-effect bands in SE Wisconsin, NE Illinois and also off Lake Huron into E. Michigan.  Wurtsmith AFB in Iosco Co. reports 15″ of new snowNear Racine WI they report 21.5″ of new snow in the last 2 days!  Other Wisconsin totals:  14.7″ Wind Point, 14″ N. Bay, 13.5″ Jackson, 10″ S. Milwaukee.  Illinois totals:  6″ Chicago and Evanston, 9″ Waukegan and 10″ at Munster IN.

Up to half a foot of snow is possible tonight in N. Indiana.  At 6 pm, Gary IN was reporting moderate snow and winds gusting to over 30 mph.

These two pics. from the Chicago water intake show how conditions change with these lake-effect snow bands.  You can go from very good visibility to very poor visibility in a short period of time.
