This is a graph of Lake Michigan water temperature for this year (in black) and the last several years. We’re a touch on the cool side (not surprising since August was slightly cooler than average and Sept. 1-13 was nearly 6 degrees cooler than avg. in G.R.). With some sun and a warmer pattern the lake shouldn’t cool in the next 10 days. Water temps. at the buoys Weds. AM: Ludington 63.7, Muskegon 63.1, Port Sheldon/Holland 66.1 and S. Haven 64.8. The mid-lake buoy west of Holland shows 66.6 and the north Lake Michigan mid-lake buoy is at 64.8. The water temp. of inland Reeds Lake was 68 Weds. AM.
This is Northern Hemisphere Total Ice Cover. We’re right about at the time of minimum ice cover (which was Sept. 9 last year). Looks like we’re pretty close to the 10-year average. Snow is forecast for some of the higher elevations of the Rockies – including high areas of Yellowstone N.P.
