Lake-Effect Clouds

Here’s a MODIS Lake Michigan satellite picture from midday – showing sunshine in Wisconsin and NE Illnois and the lake-effect clouds (and snow showers/flurries) on the Michigan side of the lake.

This is downtown Chicago seen from the Harrison Crib Water Intake early this PM.  There is some ice, with pools of water in-between.

You can see the clouds (flurries) on the Michigan side of the lake at S. Haven.  Temperatures are similar on both sides of the lake at 5 pm.  It was 19 in Chicago (O’Hare) and 13 to 17 in W. Michigan.
