Winter Storm Watch

Central Great Lakes sector loop Radars here should update automatically.  A Winter Weather Advisory continues in effect for Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren and Kalamazoo Counties until 5 pm for up to 2″ of snow.  There’s also a Winter Storm Watch from late Thurs. night thru Friday for N Indiana and far S. Michigan for 5-9″ of snow.

The main general area of snow has moved east…we had anywhere from 1/2 to 2″ of new snow.  The band of lake-effect snow has come in off the lake with another dusting to an inch.  Season snowfall as of 9 am and departure to date:  Grand Rapids 57.0″ (+2.9″), Muskegon 82.4″ (+13.7″) Lansing 34.6″ (+1.0″), Kalamazoo 54.1″.  If anyone else in W. Michigan keeps track of season snowfall, you can email me at bill.steffen@woodtv.com and I’ll add you to the list.

The snow this morning generated a 1-2″ snowfall.

This is the first of several batches of accumulating snow between this morning and the weekend.  We’ll see more snow Thursday night into Friday (could be 3-6+”) and another several inches could fall from Sat. PM to Sun. AM.  Then we’ll get a break from the significant snow from Monday to Wednesday of next week.  This map is the probablity of +4″ of snow…you can see the heaviest snow from the Thurs. night/Friday system will be along and south of I-94.

Here’s the Lake Michigan satellite pic. from Tue. PM.  Lake Michigan as of this evening is up to 33.2% ice cover, The Great Lakes total is up to 50.6% ice extent.  Holland is up to 63.2″ season snowfall.
